Band Parent Meeting

There will be a parent meeting Thursday, January 31 in the band room at 6:45PM. We will discuss fundraising efforts for this year’s (and for years to come) trips and recruiting efforts for growing the program.

First rehearsal for Sr county band is Monday 2/4 6:30-9PM at Woodbridge HS

Band Parent Meeting

It won't hurt one bit.  We just need to get together so everyone knows what's going on with the band, and how the kids need our support.  Please come and get a first hand view of what goes on behind the scenes.  

Junior County Band

The Junior County Band will perform with the Senior County Band at 7:00 p.m., February 28, 2013 at Indian River High School.

St Patrick's Day Parade

The St. Patrick's Day Parade in Ocean City is scheduled for March 16.

Rehearsals will be March 6th, March 13th, and March 15th.

Anyone interested in green led lights?  Let me know.

Interview with Director Nicholas Greeson

• What was your experience in your high school band like?
  
  My HS band experience was rewarding and challenging. My director had a way of getting the absolute best out of us while remaining constantly positive and encouraging.

• What instruments can you play, which are you proficient at, and which are your favorites?
  
  Saxophone is my first love, though I added French horn, trumpet, and flute while in high school. In college you have to learn and play all wind and percussion instruments. Sax is my favorite to play, though the oboe is my favorite to listen to.

• What kind of music did you listen to in your youth, and what kind of music do you listen to now?
  
  My parents played a lot of ‘classic’ rock while I was growing up, plus a lot of Frank Sinatra. I loved Michael Jackson when I was a kid. In high school I listened to some 90’s R&B, followed by lots of Dave Matthews Band. Now, I still listen to some DMB, modern rock, country, jazz, bluegrass; but I also love 20th century orchestral music by Aaron Copland, Paul Hindemith, and William Schuman.

• What are your goals in the coming years for the band?
  
  Get bigger and stronger in all the sections. Develop a concert percussion ensemble. Travel to Disney in spring 2015. Play some of the great ‘standard’ band works like the Holst suites in Eb and F, and music by Alfred Reed like A Festival Prelude, and Russian Christmas Music.

• Tell us about your service in the Army Reserves Band.
  
  I started in the Army Reserve right out of high school. It’s great because I get to play on a professional level, keeping up my skills as a performer. I also get to work with a wonderful group of musicians and people. We get to play at neat places too, like the Kennedy Center in D.C., or the Raven Rock Mountain Complex in Maryland.

• How would you compare Sussex County, DE to the other areas you have lived in?
  
  Quieter and much more friendly. It’s also nice to not have to contend with things like traffic. I do miss the grocery store ‘Wegmans’ though…

• How would you like to see parents involved with the band?
  
  Everyone has a talent or skill that could help us out. From summer camp to the last holiday parade, a little bit of time pitched in by everyone can really pay in dividends.

• What aspect of teaching do you enjoy the most?
  
  When we finish a rep or a performance and the unifying thought on every one’s mind is YES and you can see it in everyone’s eyes. The synergy that creates makes everyone come back for more.

• Can you share your vision for the field show for the 2013 Football Season?
