Band Description

“The Marching Band is one of the public faces of our school, and in some settings (like parades), the only public face. If our marching band looks good, our whole school looks good.” - This is the essence of some words spoken by our former band director, Nick Greeson. We all know it to be true. It is much responsibility in the hands of a small group of students. They deserve our support, and we give it gladly and with enthusiasm. This is the goal of this site.

St. Patrick's Day Parade Ocean City, MD

2014 Parade

The forecast was not good.  But it looked like there may be a window of opportunity during the hours of the parade.  So we decided to participate.  We could not let down that crowd eager to hear our splendid tunes.

So we got up early on Saturday morning, put on our green, and loaded our equipment on the band trailer.  We made it all the way to Millsboro.  Then we got the call.  The Town of Ocean City and The Delmarva Irish-American Club had cancelled the event, and this statement was issued:
"Unfortunately, today’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade has been canceled due to the weather and the public safety concerns of the parade participants and spectators. Thank you for your patience as we tried our best to host one of our favorite events of the year!! While it has rained on our parade, there is still plenty of Irish fun to be had in Ocean City this weekend!!"

So the bus driver turned the bus around on a dime, and we retreated to the high school.  It was bittersweet news. We love to march, and it would have been the last parade for our seniors.  But we like to be dry too.  And our instruments don't like rain much.

Exchange Student Opportunity

We received the following information about the opportunity to host an exchange student:

I am a parent of children at SCHS and the parent of a future SCHS band member. I am also a coordinator for ICES a cultural exchange program and am placing exchange students for next school year. I am looking for host families. In particular I have an interesting student from Germany that would fit perfectly into a band family. She is in chorus, dances (swing dance is a favorite) and plays the saxophone. She would like to participate in band on her exchange. She has requested to be placed in Delaware and having pride in our area and our school, I would really like to place her with a local family. Hosting an exchange student is a great opportunity for student and family alike.
